  • Andy Chu is a producer, creative director, and cultural storyteller with more than two decades of experience shaping narrative across television, film, digital media, and live events. As the founder of Arc2 Intertainment and FMA Entertainment, Andy has built a reputation for producing bold, visually rich content – from New York Fashion Week and the Tribeca Film Festival to the Stripped Concert Series, FMA Fashion Week, and the Vancouver-based food series Bites and Sips. A recognized early adopter, Andy embraced streaming and web-based storytelling in the early 2010s, championing streaming productions well before it became the industry standard. He also pioneered immersive media in Canada, founding the Vancouver VR Film Festival and writing and producing his own VR film – establishing himself at the forefront of narrative innovation. As vertical filmmaking rises, Andy sees another opportunity to challenge convention and reimagine the creative process. To him, vertical is more than a shift in format, it’s an invitation to engage audiences in new, deeply personal ways. With a passion for future-facing media and a legacy of bringing emerging formats into the mainstream, Andy continues to shape what’s next with originality, artistry, and cultural impact.

  • Alicia Read is an actress, producer, and storyteller helping to bring legitimacy to the rapidly evolving world of vertical filmmaking. A former beauty industry executive with over 20 years of experience, she helped launch and scale independent brands into partnerships with taste-makers like Nordstrom, goop, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar. Today, she brings that same blend of creative instinct and strategic insight to the entertainment industry, advocating for vertical productions that are both professionally and artistically respected. With nine vertical films – including two hit shows – under her belt, Alicia is working to position verticals not as a passing trend, but as a viable, future-forward format offering real creative opportunity and economic stability. In a time of massive change, she sees verticals as a powerful engine for both artistic growth and sustainable employment – a format where seasoned professionals and emerging talent can stay on set, hone their craft, and build lasting careers. As the industry evolves, Alicia is committed to helping shape a more inclusive and resilient creative economy, where innovation and integrity go hand in hand.

  • Monika Dalman is a Casting Director based in Vancouver, BC, with nearly a decade of experience casting both union and non-union projects of all sizes around the world. Since stepping into the world of vertical filmmaking in late 2023, Monika has become a passionate advocate for making these sets safer, fairer, and more sustainable for everyone involved. She sees verticals as more than just a trend – they represent a powerful opportunity to get actors and crew back on set, earning fair wages, supporting their families, and doing what they love most: making great films. In uncertain times, verticals offer consistent, meaningful work for the people who keep this industry alive. Monika envisions a future where vertical productions can operate under union agreements, access tax incentives, and serve as a launchpad for emerging talent. Most importantly, she believes this future depends on collective action – where actors, agents, unions, producers, and all filmmakers come together in a spirit of trust, collaboration, and shared purpose.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

VFSSA respectfully acknowledges that we live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
We extend gratitude to the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities who have cared for and protected these lands, known as Turtle Island,
since time immemorial.

With this acknowledgment, we recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism, racism, and systemic discrimination that continue to create barriers for Indigenous peoples across these lands. We commit to listening, learning, and working in solidarity toward a more just and equitable future.
